(SALISBURY, MD.)-This year in Wicomico Country,49 events are expected to bring in over 130,000 people that will lead to an economic boost.
With this business, they are expecting an economic impact of 53 million dollars.
Wicomico County Executive Director Bob Culver said sports is a top priority in the area because 90 percent of the events are sports related.
That's why the Henry S. Parker Complex is being expanded and upgraded.
Field 5's infield has already been replaced with synthetic turf and new dugouts.
The upgraded will likely be done in the spring of 2018.
"We have five fields now and what makes these tournaments work well is a total of eight fields in one place so we are doing a lot of diamond fields which is baseball and softball fields,"said Culver.
The USSSA Eastern Fast Pitch World Series has brought in more than a 100 million dollars to the local economy for more than a decade.
Assistant Tourism Manager with the Wicomico County Recreation,Parks, and Tourism James Simmoms said this event is continuing to grow. This event returns this July with 400 teams.
"This will be the 11th year in a row and over a three week span so we have 21 days straight in July that softball is going on,"said Simmons.
