Local pet salon owner expands business, opens doggie daycare
Episode Date: July 16, 2018
(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.) - New to Rehoboth Beach, The Pampered Pet Palace is receiving lots of positive feedback from the community.
"It represents brightness, joy, cheeriness, and we know the dogs are going to have a good time here,” said Doug Wilson of Rehoboth Beach.
Previously a gym, The Pampered Pet Palace features a bright and cozy play area for pets of all sizes. It is owned and operated by The Pampered Pet Grooming Salon Melissa Rodriguez.
“I’ve had the grooming shop for 18 years in Rehoboth,” said Rodriguez. “I’ve always done daycare, but I only have a certain amount of space, so when this opened up, I decided to take one unit and turn it into a daycare. It’s made the grooming side a little more like it should be, a little calmer, because all the ones that want to play can come over here.”
Rodriguez says the daycare can comfortably fit 20 dogs at a time. She also says a staff member is always present with the animals so pet parents need not to worry.
“There’s someone with them all the time in each room and we’re right next door also, so they’re never alone.”
Rodriguez tells WRDE the decision to open a doggie daycare was driven by both her passion for animals and a growing need for pet accommodations.
“When people come, they want to go to the beach and bring their dogs but they don't want to leave them home. Then they feel bad all day and think 'oh, what are they getting into?' or 'I hope they're not going to the bathroom in the house or destroying anything,' so it just relieves all of that worry.”
The Pampered Pet Palace is open every Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. To learn more or to book arrangements, visit www.thepamperedpetde.com.
