(MILFORD, Del) - You won’t find Al Capone and his gang at easySpeak Spirits, the new restaurant and distillery located at 586 Milford Harrington Hwy in Milford DE, but you will find a sleek, “Prohibition” themed design, plenty of delectable wood-fired menu items, craft spirits distilled on location, and a new place to join friends for a super-fun experience!
In this episode of Coastal Cuisine, host Michael Sprouse sits down with Marissa Cordell and Zach King for an inside look at the popular new spot (open just six weeks as of this post).
Not only does easySpeak offer a wide variety of crafted on location spirits and ingenious cocktails (including but not limited to infused vodkas, rums, gin, and bourbon), they also offer an array of flavorsome food options and shareable plates from mouthwatering wood fired pizza to delicious, smoked bar bites and gourmet quesadillas.
The 1920’s era industrial design highlights the space perfectly. It’s open-aired with a relaxed yet suave feel to the space. The epoxy, industrial swirl tinted floors alone are amazing to see for the first time.
Other authentic touches (including very visually interesting parts of a genuine, turn of the 20th century still) are tucked into different spots throughout which subtly yet effectively add to the “Prohibition” experience. Even the early 1900’s era, brass, cash register by the entrance kicks-in the Bonnie and Clyde spirit vibe as soon as you walk in the door.
The name, “easySpeak” (not a typo by the way) is a clever pun of the term “Speak Easy.” In case you’re unfamiliar with 1920’s and 30’s American history, the term was used during Prohibition to refer to a place where illegal alcohol was being served. The owners (usually gangsters or mob related “business” folks) preferred that patrons “ speak easily” keeping their voices hushed and low to avoid detection by the police and federal agents.
But that’s not the law of the land at easySpeak. The spacious former warehouse was packed with locals having a great time during our shoot for Coastal Cuisine and for good reason. It’s a perfect place to catch up with friends, enjoy each other’s company over cocktails or craft beer, and to nosh on easily shareable, wood fired delicacies from the menu. One item in particular, the Chilled, Smoked, Peel & Eat Shrimp was outstanding. Dip it in the warm, drawn butter that’s served with it and you’ll swear you’re in shrimp heaven. It had Coastal Cuisine Host Michael Sprouse thinking that it was easily some of the best shrimp he has had in a very long time.
Final word - easySpeak is a welcome new addition the the Milford dining and drinking scene. It’s a fun, open, hip yet unpretentious place with a very well thought out design that only adds to the vibe. They keep an active Facebook page that often lists upcoming events and specials which you can access here: www.facebook.com/easySpeak.spirits.
