(LEWES, Del.) - On the heels of Valentine's Day a local running organization is spreading the love to people in need with annual 5k fundraiser.
Around 70 people showed up at Cape Henlopen State Park Sunday morning to kick their feet into high gear for the 13th Annual 5k Valentine's Chase.
Hosted by Seashore Striders, a local running organization, the event welcomed people of all ages.
"We start with the smallest age group nine and under and go all the way up to 80 and over," said Tim Bamforth, president of the organization. "We have a spectrum of runners and walkers, really a large group that's over 40."
Despite the slightly wet weather left over from Saturday evening, people still showed up to support the run's greater mission - giving back to those in need.
"The support we get is wonderful. Runners come from all over. We try to raise money for a local charity or a local person in need. And today it's going to be a local person by the name of Mike Benton, who's going through rehab up at Philadelphia hospital," Bamforth said.
Seashore Striders hosts running events year round and those who would like to join a race or volunteer can visit, seashorestriders.com for more information.
