(Dover, Del) - The Delaware General Assembly's Joint Finance Committee unveiled the Fiscal 2019 budget this week. This is the earliest the State budget has ever been released by the legislature and happens after the state of Delaware did not meet its deadline of June 30th for the current year's budget. Instead of spending 98 percent of anticipated revenue it appropriates 97 percent and puts an additional 1 percent into the rainy day fund
In addition to the budget, a constitutional amendment to revise the budget planning process was introduced that would cap budget increase yearly by a specific formula based on anticipated tax revenues, anticipated expenses and the consumer price increase yearly.
The proposed budget is just less than a 3% increase over the last fiscal year and provides for state employees and retirees to get a salary increase and a bonus.
WRDE news will be in Dover on June 30th as the final budget bills are enacted.
