(BERLIN, Md.) - People from all over the community ventured into Berlin Tuesday morning to get a first look inside the new Worcester County library branch.

The two story 11,000-square foot building will replace the old library across the street that was built in the 1970s.

"Everyone has been waiting for this moment for years. We outgrew our old branch 20 years ago," said branch manager Alice Pattera.

The new branch features meeting rooms, computer centers, art galleries and special areas for people of all ages.

"It's four times the size of the old branch. So now we have room for more programming, we have meeting room space, we have dedicated local history rooms, we have study areas," Pattera added.

A spacious interactive children's area will help expand the library's learning programs and accommodate more kids.

"It's a beautiful facility, lots of things for the kids to do and to keep it interactive for them," said Julie Justice, a mom of two visiting the library from Millsboro.

"i think this is really necessary, you need enough room. I think people really ought to use this library. It's beautiful."

Tuesday's opening was just the beginning - the library will host its grand opening ceremony on Aug. 7.

The Berlin branch is open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, and closed on Sundays.
