Hazmat spill in Selbyville

(Selbyville, Del) - Fire and HAZMAT crews were called to a chemical spill this morning in Selbyville.
The call came just after 11:30 am Thursday, July 12, 2018, with multiple fire companies and E-M-S units responding, along with a DNREC hazmat response team.
The incident happened at the Mountaire Farms plant, next to the Southern Delaware School of the Arts. Reportedly a forklift operator punctured a container. Unconfirmed reports are that six people were taken to an area hospital The area around Hoosier street was closed off for several hours as crews worked to secure the site.
This is the second incident at the plant this year. In April a fire forced the evacuation of the building due to a malfunctioning power transformer. Company officials estimated the damage at $500,000 and the plant had to close for a day.
