(BERLIN, MD.) -Students in Worchester County Schools are tackling the issue of drug addiction this week. During Red Ribbon Week at Berlin Intermediate, the school wants the kids to focus on learning about drug prevention. Landon Schull has been learning important information in Health Class.
"We are learning some of the harmful effects like they can cause cancer and you can get addicted or even overdose or just die," said Schull.
The kids are involved in other activities during the week. They are wearing different outfits each day and the kids like it. The assistant principal David Gell said Red Ribbon week is necessary to raise awareness about what happens to the kids if they use drugs.
"As many are aware unfortunately I don't know if any communities are untouched by the Opioid Epidemic but I know here on the shore that all areas are trying to combat it so getting to the students at a young age and letting them know how harmful that lifestyle is important," said Gell.
The school's activities will wrap up on Friday.
