(Georgetown, Del.) -Thousands filled the Georgetown Circle to see the burying of the hatchet after a tough election. Return Day happens every two years. Former Sussex Republican Committee defeated Democrat Ellen Magee to win a Sussex County Council seat and John Rieley was at the event
"It is a unique tradition that we have in Sussex County and we are the only county in the nation with Return Day and with the burying of the hatchet as part of it and it is a symbolic gesture to bring healing and help us come to gather together and move forward," said Rieley
The people came out to watch marching bands that were performing in the Parade. There were also floats and of course candidates in cars.Nataleigh Robertson said the floats are really fun to check out.
"They all have their unique style to them," said Robertson.
