FENWICK ISLAND, Del.- Fenwick Island is the latest beach town to consider tweaking its parking.
On Friday, the town's Finance Committee recommended that paid parking hours extend by two hours. Currently, parking in Fenwick costs $2.50 an hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If the recommended parking changes are instituted, paid parking will be required from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Vice Mayor Richard Mais says the idea will be put before the business development committee before it's put in front of the town council. He says if the town does change its parking hours, it could generate more revenue.
"We are looking for ways to recapture some of the expenses we have for picking up trash and the beach and providing the services that the town does," he explains.
The finance committee also discussed future funding for beach replenishment, though that as well is in the very early stages.
