13th Annual Capital Classic Draws A Big Crowd

(FELTON, DE.)- The numbers are in and 6,000 people attended the week-long Capital Classic Middle School Tournament.The 13th annual tournament showcased 32 teams in total. The tournament had 16 boys teams and 16 girls teams. The Championship games were played at Lake Forest High School.

The tournament is known for having some of the starts of tomorrow. John Martin was once again the Public Address Announcer for the Tournament.

"What this does is give the state a preview of who is up and coming and sometimes we find a few people who show a little bit of a glimpse of some stardom," said Martin.

Beacon 8th grader Mehkia Applewhite put up good numbers at the Tournament. She was named MVP in the Pepsi Championship bracket.
Her team won the Championship as they defeated the Dover middle school team.

"It feels good because it is the first trophy we had held in a while," said Applewhite.

With Applewhite the Beacon girls basketball team finished the season at 13-0.
