(GEORGETOWN, Del.) -Joe Schells dream of having a sports complex in Sussex County is finally becoming a reality. On Wednesday they held a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility
"Today was a culmination of all the planning and fundraisers that we have been doing for two years and we are finally at the point of breaking ground," said Schell.
Schell is the Chairman Of The Board Of Directors for the Sussex Sports Foundation. The Foundation will run the Sandhill Fields. There will be 6 pickleball courts and 8 soccer fields/lacrosse fields. The Henlopen Soccer Club will be one of the teams that will be using the fields. The President Of The Club Stephanie Parker said the facility is needed.
"We have been trying to find a more permanent home for years to allow us to expand the club and prove more opportunities for the kids," said Parker.
There will be an opportunity for teams to play tournaments at the complex. The tournaments that will take place at the facility should help generate 2 million to the economy.
