(OCEAN CITY, Md.) - Shoppers were up bright and early Sunday morning at the Tanger Outlets in Ocean City to kick off the start of Maryland Week.

A number of stores both big and small are offering 4s0 to 80 percent off merchandise ahead of Labor Day. The news is too good to be true for parents preparing their kids for a new school year.

"We're taking advantage of all the different sales and signs," said Tracey DeLaney of Charles County, Md. who was out shopping with her two daughters and husband at the Outlets.

"We're hoping to get some good deals on shoes. We're looking for maybe some Nike shoes or maybe good tennis shoes, gym shoes and then all the cool summer stuff," said DeLaney.

With Maryland schools starting after Labor Day this year, students say it makes for a better shopping experience.

"It's pretty helpful because usually a lot of places are really busy but today it's been kind of calmer than usual," said Chloe Parson of Salisbury who was out with her sister and mother shopping for back-to-school sales. "The shoe deals were really good today."

Shoppers can expect deep discounts on hotel prices as well. Several hotels are offering up to 25 percent off multi-night stays through the holiday weekend.

State officials say this week of bargain shopping is expected to bring nearly $75-million.

Maryland week will last through labor day.
