A Taste of Greece this Weekend in Ocean City
"We put on the Greek festival to recreate a little bit of Greece in Ocean City. It's the big fundraiser for a small resort church," said Alexandra Hall, a festival organizer.
People are coming for the special jewelry, Greek merchandise, art, and most importantly the delicious taste of the Mediterranean.
"Well, they come for the food. They really come for the food first. That's why our little slogan is come for the food stay for the fun" said Hall.
Arleen Pace of Ocean City said, "Usually everything is Italian food here and Greek food is just a special type of food."
"Moussaka, pastitsio, lamb shank falling off the bone tender. We always sell out of that one," Hall added.
It wouldn't be a Greek festival without some traditional Greek dancing.
"The dancing. Don't make me cry. My brother and I. We used to go up the mountain, up there, and dance with other kids. That's how I learned," said one woman formerly of Greece, who now lives in Ocean City.
Angelina Zhupa who also now lives in Ocean City said, "That's our culture and we have to show the people how the Greek people enjoy the desserts, the food, and the dance, how we dance. It's nice to share this with other people."
All funds from the festival will be used to help the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean City. make sure you get there before Monday.
