(CAMBRIDGE, Md.) - A Cambridge man is behind bars after police find drugs and a stolen handgun during a traffic stop.

Cambridge Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in reference to a traffic violation near the intersection of Washington Street and Maces Lane. Contact was made with the driver identified as 28-year old Sean P. Purnell Jr.

While speaking to Purnell, officers could smell a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Further investigation and search of the vehicle and person of Purnell officers located several plastic baggies containing approximately 454 grams of suspected Marijuana. Inside the vehicle officers also located a stolen handgun along with drug paraphernalia which included scales. When officers attempted to arrest Purnell he resisted and attempted to fight officers before being successfully taken into custody.

Purnell was arrested and charged with Possession with intent to distribute Marijuana, 2ND Degree Assault on officers, Resisting Arrest, and numerous Handgun Charges. Purnell is being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center on a $500,000.00 bond.
