(ABERDEEN, Md.)- A Maryland police officer recovers from a shooting, as the shooting suspect sits behind bars.

A late Thursday night shooting led to an early Friday morning manhunt. Authorities say 21-year old Tyler Scott Testerman shot 10-year police veteran Jason Easton in the face, while Easton was investigating reports of suspicious activity.

Police say the officer was hit by pellets, not a bullet, possibly from a shotgun.

"The Harford County swat team then approached that residence and as they approached the suspect came out of the house and gave himself up. So, the suspect is now in custody. We can say now we are safe here in Aberdeen, the shooter, we believe there was only one shooter, he has been apprehended," said Chief Henry Trabert of the Aberdeen Police Department.

Officer easton is undergoing surgery Friday, December 4.
