(MILTON, Del.) - It may have been the luck of the Irish that caused Sunday morning's showers to let up . Irish Eyes holds their 7th annual Lucky Leprechauns 5k. Every year this event help Irish Eyes kick off their week-long St. Patrick's Day celebration. The race starts and ends in the parking lot behind the restaurant in downtown Milton.

Over 275 racers pre-registerd and more were lining up the morning of, decked out in their finest greenery. It was just a little misty by the time runners took off, but event coordinator for Irish Eyes, Maryellen Kiernan, says that the fifty degree temperatures make great running weather.

Kiernan says this event gets bigger every year. "When we started, we probably only had 150 racers and now we might have 500 today. It's not cold and so I mean people don't mind the rain. Normally we get a good crowd when it's this temperature," she says.

Proceeds go towards the Milton Fire Company, Milton Chamber of Commerce, The Milton Fourth of July Fireworks Fund, and the Gladdis Wilkins Seeding the Future Scholarship.
