Local Teacher Recalls Jeopardy Experience
SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- In the wake of Jeopardy host Alex Trebek's cancer diagnosis, a local drama teacher is recalling his experience on the hit game show.
Sussex Central High School Drama Teacher Dave Warick was on the show nearly 30 years ago. While he didn't win, he took home shampoo, snacks, and a stereo--as at the time the show did not offer cash prizes to the runners-up.
"It was a great experience," he says. "I went on a dare so it was cool. I really admired Alex Trebek and the whole show."
Warick says Trebek did a great job of keeping the show moving, and had a cutting sense of humor.
Trebek announced that he plans to work as he battles stage four pancreatic cancer, but Bayhealth oncologist Iftekhar Khan says the intense cancer requires intense treatment.
"The chemotherapy for stage four comes in different flavors," he says. "The most aggressive kind will be very tough in my opinion to work through that but some patients can work."
Khan says aside from genetic predispositions, smoking and drinking can cause pancreatic cancer.
