(Seaford, Del.) -This holiday season people are focused on getting deals so they will be keeping more money in their wallet. Senior Corporal Eric Chambers with the Seaford Police Department said during this holiday rush crime is on the rise.

"Between now and Christmas we definitely see an increase in thefts occurring and a lot of it will be taking people's money and pocketbooks and if the ladies are out shopping do not leave your purse unattended in the shopping cart," said Chambers.

Chambers said when out shopping keep your items covered and put them in the trunk so nobody can see them. Chambers has other safety tips to protect you.

"If you are going out shopping don't' do it alone and especially through dark parking lots and when using a credit card then always use a secure type system with a chip on the credit card and keep track of your bank statement and make sure to check your receipts," said Chambers.
