SALISBURY, Md.)- Once again Wicomico County is hosting the United States specialty sports association eastern world series. The fast pitch softball tournament started July 13th and runs until the 30th. It started this week with the 10 and under and the 12 and under teams.

There are 76 teams playing in the 12 and under tournament and several are from Delmarva. One team having fun is the Diamond State Swoop 12 and under team from laurel. The team scored 14 runs in one of its games on Friday. Manager Gary Givans said his team is continuing to get big hits.

"We are looking to run deep in this tournament and it will get tougher every game from here out so we have to buckle down and play hard,"said Givans.

Delaware Diamonds Gold manager Gerald Jester has been coaching softball for 21 years. He said it is always important to make sure the athletes are hydrated when playing in hot conditions.

"Alot of water, gatorade, alot of water, a lot of wet rags, and ice,"said Jester.

Even with the hot temperatures it could not keep away Salisbury Head coach Margie Knight. Knight said tournaments like this one is beneficial to the players.

"This is the right age to start and by the time they are a senior in high school they would have been playing for seven years and that is when you really understand the game I think,"said Knight.

Jester's 12 and under travel ball team is well prepared for this tournament. They have been training three times a week and for 10 months.

"I don't think they realize the dedication, and the time that these girls put in and all the hard work,"said Jester.

The first tournament will wrap up at the Henry S. Parker Athletic complex on Sunday.
