(LAUREL, De.) - On June 29, the Laurel Police Department arrested 44 year old Rafael Darios Taveras-Collado of Lancaster, PA for Possession of Heroin with an Aggravating Factor, Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 5 Quantity, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and several traffic offenses.

Taveras-Collado was pulled over after rolling through a stop sign in Laurel. He also did not possess a valid driver's license.

Due to several other actions by Taveras-Collado, the officer requested assistance from the Delaware State Police and their K9 unit. Upon arrival of the DSP K9 unit, a positive alert was received from the K-9.

After conducting a thorough search, officers revealed several hidden compartments/voids in the vehicle and located a large quantity of heroin.

Seized from the vehicle were approximately 1,287 individual bags of heroin weighing approximately 19.3 grams.

Taveras-Collado was charged with the above offenses and after being arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #3, he was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $61,000 secured bond.
