Arrest Made in Deadly Dover Home Invasion
Jacob H. Leager, 21 of Dover, was arrested today, Thursday March 3, 2016 by Delaware State Police Homicide Detectives after witness accounts provided details of his involvement in the death of Haley Henwood. Through the investigation it was revealed that after Jacob and his father, Clifton Leager, were shot inside their home on John Clark Road on October 17, 2015, Jacob picked up a handgun that was dropped by one of the two suspects and began chasing them as they fled the house. Jacob chased Saleem Shabazz and Matthew Harrington to the area of where they parked their car and, upon approaching the vehicle, opened the door and fired the gun into the car, striking Haley Henwood. Leager then ran between some neighborhood houses and threw the weapon before returning to his house. Henwood was later located by troopers in a side yard of a residence located in the 200 block of David Hall Road and transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The gun that Jacob Leager used was found later that same day by detectives on the roof of a house located in the unit block of John Collins Circle. This was the same area in which Leager was seen running away from the car.
Jacob Leager was charged with Manslaughter and arraigned at JP2 before being committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $60,000.00 secured bond.
Saleem Shabazz is currently being held in Howard R. Young Correctional Institution without bail and Matthew Harrington is being held in Montgomery County Correctional Facility pending extradition back to Delaware.
