Troopers Arrest Dover Man for Attempted Murder
The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. this afternoon, Thursday October 1, 2015, as troopers were dispatched to the unit block of Washington Place in the Capitol Park development for a report of shots fired.
Upon their arrival, it was determined that two victims had been shot outside the residence and had already left the area in a privately owned vehicle enroute to Bayhealth - Kent General Hospital.
Detectives made contact with the two victims at the hospital and were informed that a verbal argument ensued between Emory O. Cannon and his 41-year-old mother outside the residence which turned physical.
The mother's 31-year-old boyfriend quickly intervened by stepping between the two which then escalated into Cannon wrestling with him into a car that was parked in the driveway. Cannon then reached into the side of his pants and removed a handgun and began firing at the 31-year-old male striking him several times in the upper torso.
During the gunfire, Cannon's mother was also struck once in the right leg causing her to fall to the ground. The two were then driven to the hospital by a friend that was inside the house during the altercation and Cannon fled the area on foot.
Within two hours of the incident, Emory Cannon was taken into custody by troopers after being located in the parking of the Wawa located at 1450 Forest Avenue, Dover. He was transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with Attempted Murder 1st, Assault 1st, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $223,000.00 cash bond.
The 31-year-old male was admitted to the hospital in serious condition. The 41-year-old female's admission status is currently unknown, but her wound is considered non-life-threatening.
