(Magnolia, Del) - The Delaware State Police investigate a serious hit and run crash that has left a male pedestrian injured this morning on Walnut Shade Road west of Magnolia.

Preliminary investigation indicates the crash occurred today, Sunday, August 16, 2015, at approximately 6:57 a.m. as a man, 77 of Magnolia, was walking on his property when an unknown vehicle traveling eastbound on Walnut Shade Road left the road in an eastbound direction striking him and his mail box. The pedestrian was thrown into the roadway as a result of the impact and landed in the middle of Walnut Shade Road. After impact the vehicle fled the scene and continued traveling eastbound onto Walnut Shade Road. A passerby advised he was traveling on Walnut Shade road when he observed the pedestrian laying in the middle of the roadway.

The 77 year old man was transported by ambulance to the Kent General Hospital and was admitted in stable condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

Troopers continue to collect and analyze evidence at the scene to determine make and model of the striking vehicle.

Walnut Shade Road was closed for approximately one hour while the crash was investigated and cleared. Troopers continue to investigate this incident.
