(ATLANTIC CITY)- An enforcement official have confirmed the distribution of a disturbing video of NFL star Ray Rice knocking his then-fiancee, Janay Palmer, unconscious. The person tells the Associated Press an NFL executive received a DVD copy of the security video of Rice punching his wife five months ago.

The person reportedly played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an alleged NFL executive on April 9, in which a woman was heard saying, "you're right. It's terrible."

Even though the video was sent to the NFL without authorization, the anonymous law enforcement official says he/she can't confirm NFL executives watched the video. The person tells AP, they wanted the NFL to have the shocking video before punishing Rice.

After several request, the NFL repeatedly claims it could not obtain the video. According to the AP, the league argues it has no record of the video, and no one in the league office had seen it before this week when TMZ released it.

Rice was initially suspended for two games, but has now been released by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
