ROXANA, Del.- The Little League Senior Softball World Series kicked off Monday night at the Pyle Center Softball Fields in Roxana.

An opening ceremony was held Monday afternoon for the biggest youth sports event in the state of Delaware. Teams from the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific are competing in the tournament.

The Asia-Pacific champions, Team Bulacan, came all the way from the Philippines. They secured their spot in the world series after beating teams from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Coach Jennifer Staana explained what it took for the team to make it to the world series.

"We won in the local tournament in the Philippines," she said. "So we participated in the regional tournament which is in Jakarta, Indonesia. So that it's, that's why we're here. We're blessed and very grateful."

The softball tournament runs through Sunday.
