State Police Investigating Deadly Kite Boarding Accident Near Dewey Beach
DEWEY BEACH, Del.- Delaware State Police said one person died Friday after a kite boarding accident south of Dewey Beach.
It happened around 12:45 p.m. in the Towers Bay area of Delaware Seashore State Park.
According to police, a 48-year-old man was meeting his father there around 11 a.m. to practice kite boarding. The man was practicing by only using a harness and the kite, not the board. It was at that time that heavy winds pulled the man farther out into deeper water.
Police said the father called 911 for help and Delaware Fish & Wildlife Natural Resource Police started to search the area.
At around 1:30 p.m., natural resources police found the 48-year-old man along the shore. His name is being withheld at this time. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
