SALISBURY, Md.- The 31st annual Seagull Century bike ride, held Saturday, spanned across Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester counties on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

There are one of two options for riders. There is the traditional 100-mile century that runs through Assateague, and a 64-mile Princess Anne metric route that goes through Somerset county.

The Seagull Century began 31 years ago when 68 cyclists came together to create this 100-mile century ride. Event coordinator, Jen Humphrey, says that number has risen to 5,000 people for this year's tour.

Proceeds from the century go towards Salisbury University scholarships and faculty grants, and it supports local nonprofit organizations.

THE UNIVERSITY SAYS THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE TOUR ON THE LOWER SHORE IS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT $4.5 MILLION.

The tour was named among the top 10 century rides by Bicycling magazine, and The Ride magazine calls it "one of the prettiest big rides in America."
