Enzo's Pajama Drive for Hope Gets Underway
MILLSBORO, Del.- Nine-year-old Enzo Vincent of Camden is working hard to make children throughout Delaware feel warm and loved on Christmas. He started a pajama drive when he was 4-years-old. Enzo's Pajama Drive for Hope usually starts around Thanksgiving, but this year it began in October.
When Enzo was younger he loved unwrapping brand new pairs of pajamas. He wanted all children to experience this feeling and so he began wrapping pajamas of all sizes to give to those in need for Christmas. Enzo has already received a couple hundred pajamas. This is his first year as a non-profit organization.
"This year I'm going to try to get people in other states to get pajamas to people in their state," says Enzo.
Enzo shops for all sizes of pajamas and he accepts donations from across the country. Sometimes he even comes home from school to find boxes of deliveries.
The drive gives to children through local school districts and nonprofit organizations. Enzo even has pajamas for newborns in the hospital.
In 2018 his drive brought in 3,500 brand new pajamas. He hopes to give out at least 1,000 in each county this Christmas.
The American Legion is contributing to the drive for the first time. Members have already collected 130 pajamas. Enzo became a member of the Son's of the Legion in Millsboro back in July and he won the Auxiliary’s Good Deed award at the state convention.
"In August at the legion's national convention, our groups got together and asked other states to bring pajamas," says June Jones with the Children and Youth Department for Delaware Auxiliary.
The goal is not only to help veterans but also to help the kids. That's why the legion identifies with Enzo's drive.
"You don't have to be a veteran," says Son's of the Legion Detachment of Delaware Commander Ed Gossett. "He's just doing it to help those who are homeless, which is a new focus for 28."
Enzo hopes to someday use grant money to build a house for someone in need.
Donations for his pajama drive can be dropped off or mailed to 301 E Camden Wyoming Ave, Camden, DE 19934.
