Millsboro Middle Students Create Optimist Club
MILLSBORO, Del.- Twenty-two middle schoolers are pledging to make the world a better place.
On Thursday evening, Millsboro Middle School had a special induction ceremony for the school's new Junior Optimist International Club. Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Sussex County, the club is a way for students to make a difference both at school and in the community. According to the JOI website, some club activities include environmental projects, running food drives, or even babysitting for single parents.
"I like that we get to help people and make people feel good about themselves," says 6th Grader Ayla Steele. "If they are having a bad day and stuff, we will help cheer them up and it's our day to help them."
The club is open to anyone at Millsboro Middle School. This is the first middle school JOI club in Southern Delaware.
