WHALEYVILLE, Md.- A Steven Decatur High School student is going into Thanksgiving break by serving others--using her own time and money.

Abigail Blankenship donated turkeys to the Blessings House Ministry's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. On Tuesday, she helped the ministry hand the meals out to those in need.

"Thanksgiving is special to me," she says. "I just kind of want to make it special for someone else."

The Blessing House Ministry gives out turkeys, pies, breads, baked goods  and canned goods to families in need across Worcester County each year. Participants say having someone so young take such a large role made the event even more meaningful.

"I didn't know it was being donated by a high schooler," recalls Heather Bruhn. "So that's even more awesome."

Blessing House helped about 150 families on Tuesday and says another 75 families are expected to receive Thanksgiving meal help on Wednesday.
