MILLSBORO, Del.- On Wednesday night, Blessings for Badges started to prepare Thanksgiving meals to feed our first responders who don't get to spend the holiday with their families.

"Every police officer, dispatcher, EMT, on duty fire firefighter, correctional officers...they all get a meal provided to them at no expense. And it’s been all through donations from local restaurants," said Sergeant Barry Wheatley of the Millsboro Police Department.

Volunteers picked up food and starting packing meals for Thursday.

For dessert, first responders will get a slice of pie that comes with a special handwritten note from children in the community.

"We are making cards for the first responders and police so they feel loved,” said Isaiah Magathan.

On Thanksgiving, the food will be warmed up for first responders to drop in and get meals. Boxes will also be filled with three meals to be delivered to stations all over Sussex County.

Next year the organization plans on expanding to Kent County.
