Upcoming Events to Honor Cpl. Keith Heacook

SUSSEX/WICOMICO COUNTY - The support for Corporal Keith Heacook's family continues to pour out across Delmarva. Fundraisers and events are planned this weekend, next weekend and in June.

The Paradise Grill is opening up its beach earlier than normal for the season for an all-day fundraiser on Saturday, May 15th. Paradise Companies owner Al Tortella says Cpl. Heacook enjoyed going to Paradise Grill. You can listen to live music in his honor all day Saturday and enjoy a special Back the Blue food and drink menu for a $10 donation. The beach opens up at 5 p.m. and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Heacook family.

"All of our walls and everything is painted orange and yellow, but we stand for the red, white and blue and we always back the blue, so this one is for you Corporal Heacook," Tortella says.

Also on Saturday, The Blue Line Network is back in Delmar with another Back the Blue Event. This time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Metal Shop. Volunteer Nicole Scharff says they raised $20,000 at the Kylan Barn on Wednesday and that badge stickers were all given out. She says there could be up to 750 more stickers this time with blue line stickers available upon request.

"We wanted to not leave anybody out," Scharf says. "People were pretty disappointed when they couldn't get there because it was a work day or the rain, all of that, so we generously got some more stickers donated and we're excited to offer it again if you couldn't get there."

American Legion Post 237 in Hebron is cooking up a celebration of Cpl. Heacook's life. You can find plenty of food, raffles, a DJ and a bouncy slide there on Saturday, May 22nd at 1 p.m. The Brothers at Arms MC will raise awareness for the officer on their route to the event.

"They will be meeting at the Harley Davidson shop in Salisbury at noon and they will ride the bypass up to the American Legion in Hebron to meet us there," says organizer Simona Rhodes.

Hudson Fields is planning another fundraiser later in June. It's in the preliminary planning stages right now, but Julie Hudson says the field could be full of music, vendors, food trucks and a celebration for all first responders.

"It would be great to have any form of that, fire trucks, police cars, helicopters, the ambulance," says Julie Hudson. "Anybody that would like to come out, be shown and show their support and do something here at the fields is more than welcome."

Hudson says interested vendors and volunteers can email her at julie@hudmgt.com or reach out through the event's Facebook page
