Mermaids: Fact or Fiction? It's Up to You to Decide at the East Coast's Only Mermaid Museum in Berlin

BERLIN, Md.-  A chance for you to decide for yourself...are mermaids real? The Mermaid Museum in downtown Berlin is filled with artifacts, oddities, and legends. It's also a chance for you to dive into the history of mermaids.

Follow the bubbles that lead you upstairs to the mysterious world of mermaids. The first of it's kind on the East Coast, teaching you about the mystical creatures and their questionable existence.

Recently the tale of mermaids has been gaining traction on social media. Mermaid fans posting conspiracies and "proof". This month there was even a mermaid parade in Sacramento.

"It's the mystery, the wonder of could this be. I think that's why people are so into wondering about it because it's such a mystery," said Nicole Tamalavicz with the museum.

Of course the question everyone wants to know is, are mermaids real?

"I believe the ocean is so deep and mysterious that there is a possibility. So you never know what's out there," said Tamalavicz.

But you can decide for yourself. Inside the museum is this wall full of stories of mermaid sightings from around the world. Also learn about legends and and have a little fun. Grab a tail and dress up as your mermaid alter ego. The gift shop is full of mermaid memorabilia, most of which is created by local artists. An adult and kid friendly experience.

"The kids stuff, they have dress up stuff and a scavenger hunt to look for mermaids. I like looking at the history and all the facts," said visitor Jen Sarkis.

History and facts so shocking, they wouldn't let us get video to show you. The museum has many artifacts, trinkets, and mysterious stories that you'll have to come inside to see for yourself. The museum is now open Tuesday through Sunday.
