NEWARK, De – On Tuesday, the latest candidate for Delaware's open U.S. Senate announced his intention to run.

Wilmington's Eric Hansen is campaigning for the Republican nomination. According to the press release promoting the announcement, Hansen is positioning himself as a businessman and political outsider.

“Both parties have failed Delaware families and the nation," Hansen said. " Trust in government is at an all-time low.  What families need, especially with record inflation, is collaboration not partisan politics."

The seat became open for election when current Senator, Tom Carper announced in May he would not run again. Click here for that story.

Democrat U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester is running on the Democrat side. Delaware has not elected a Republican Senator since 1994.

The state's primary is scheduled for April 2, 2024.
