Pet of the Week 12/24/21: Atlas of DHA Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - A 5-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix named Atlas stopped by WRDE. After being rescued from an over-crowded shelter in Kentucky, he is awaiting his forever home at the Delaware Humane Association Rehoboth Beach Adoption Center.

"He has made some dog friends with good introductions," says DHA Rehoboth Adoption Center Director Leigh Dempsey. "We're recommending a home without cats. He's just a little too rambunctious for a little kitty, but certainly could be in the home with another dog if we do it the right way."

Dempsey says potential dog siblings need to meet Atlas at DHA before living together.

"We introduce the dogs out in our back play yard," Dempsey says. "It gives them a chance to sniff around and play and be interactive. It's a better interaction than being in the shelter, which is a little bit more loud for all of the animals."

DHA closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and is closed on Christmas Day and the day after. The shelter re-opens for adoptions that Tuesday at noon. DHA is also closing early for New Year's Eve and will be closed on New Year's Day, re-opening on January 2nd, 2022.
