Sussex County Flooding

A powerful storm system moving through the Ohio Valley will send rain and wind to Delmarva.

The rain and wind builds throughout the morning into the afternoon. The rain will become steady to heavy in the afternoon to evening hours. The winds also increase from the south and southeast. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph are expected this afternoon gusts in excess of 50 mph are possible. Make sure to fasten all outdoor items that can become airborne in strong winds. Bring items inside if possible.

The height of the storm will occur between 5pm to Midnight Wednesday. At this time the rain will be the heaviest and the wind the strongest. Rainfall amounts will total 1" to 2" across Delmarva, with peak wind gusts over 50 mph inland, and 60 mph+ at the coast.

It's best to delay travel, if possible, until Wednesday morning. Watch for debris on the roads. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find another route.

The coast will see possible beach erosion and water level rises up to a foot or more is possible.

The rain will subside after midnight as the winds remain gusty from the southwest. Gusty winds will continue into Wednesday, over 40 mph at times.
